Crime Prevention


Community policing is a philosophy of policing based upon the premise that law enforcement officers and members of the communities they serve should create a partnerships and work together to solve problems related to crime and fear of crime.  

Crime prevention and community policing share a common purpose that of reducing the threat of crime and making communities safer and more secure. Crime prevention and community policing compliment each other. Community policing involves reforming decision making processes and crating new cultures within police departments. Crime Prevention provides information and skills that are essential to community policing.

    Crime Prevention is:
    1) Everyone’s business
    2) More than security
    3) A responsibility of all levels of government
    4) Linked with solving social problems
    5) Cost effective

    Crime Prevention Requires:
    1) A central position in law enforcement
    2) Active cooperation among all elements of the community
    3) Education
    4) Tailoring to local needs and conditions
    5) Continual testing and improvement
