The Laurens County
Sheriff’s Office regrets to announce they lost a deputy as well as a
friend in the line of duty on July 14, 2011. Deputy Roger Dale Rice, Jr.
was fatally wounded from gunfire after responding to the residence of
murder suspect on Barrel Stave Road in Clinton, SC.
Deputy Roger Rice, Jr.
began his law enforcement career with the Laurens County Sheriff’s
Office on January 4, 2010 at the age of twenty-seven.
He worked in the Detention Center while awaiting the opportunity to
become a certified Laurens County Patrol Deputy.
Deputy Rice was certified by the SC Criminal Justice Academy as a
Class I Officer on February 18, 2011and was assigned to the Uniform Patrol
Deputy Rice will be sorely
missed at the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office and by the community he
served so well. Roger died
doing what he loved most – being a deputy sheriff and serving the
public. He was one that took
pride in the way he wore his uniform and represented himself and Laurens
County. He was a devoted
husband, a father of two, and a friend to all that worked with him.
He was a role model and hero to many.
Deputy Roger Dale Rice, Jr. answered his final and eternal call on
Wednesday July 14, 2011at the age of twenty-nine.
